He yawned and stretched luxuriously, cracking a few bones in his spine in the process. He sighed deeply, and reached over to grab his cloak and pull it over his body. "Get some rest," he murmured. "We'll have to get up early in the morning to catch the boat in time."

She looked at him faintly, silver eyes shinning in the moonlight. She curled herself into a ball, after slipping under the blankets. The light demoness slowly closed her eyes, though sleep didn’t reach her mind. Her thoughts wandered back towards everything that she knew. She was leaving her country, but in her heart, did she truly want to rush off for a new beginning, or was it just some fairy tale? Wherever she went, the council would be, and she didn’t want to choose a side… but if a war started where would she stand, if not beside her parents and the rebels? She was walking towards a barren darkness, only to escape her life for a while. Akasha sighed gently and pulled the blankets over her head, blocking out the world around her as she, very slowly, drifted off to sleep.

After a few hours of shifting restlessly, Shade's lips parted and he muttered something inaudible. After a few more minutes, he spoke again, this time murmuring clearly, "No...stop...." He gave a quiet moan, tossing his head back in his sleep. "Leave her alone.....stop it....please....." His tone became increasingly louder, and more desperate with each passing moment. "Please! Stop it! Don't touch her! Stop! DON'T!"
By this point, he was thrashing around on the couch, as if fighting off some invisible enemy, some fiend of his nightmares that crept into his mind and tortured his frail soul. His cloak was tossed to the floor, and his thrashing limbs barely missed breaking the small coffee table that sat in front of him.

The light demoness saw nothing but black, but soon a sound was heard, faint, and yet, after a moment or so, another sound was her. Shade! Her mind raced as she snapped awake, her hands swiftly grabbing her chains as she pulled herself awake and to her feet. Her fingers were locked around the rings before she actually realized that there was no one in the room. She noticed his tone and flinched inwardly as she crossed the distance swiftly and pushed the coffee table out of the way, though not because she cared if it broke or not, she didn’t want him to harm himself upon it, her chains swiftly forgotten upon the ground.
“Shade!” She called out gently, softly as she approached him slowly, carefully. Akasha gripped his thrashing arms in her hands, not wanting to suffer getting hit. “Shade wake up.” She said firmly as she shook him gently, worry and fear showing clearly in her silver eyes. “Please, wake up…” The young looking female muttered softly as she shook him gently once more. What horrors could be so terrible to make Shade act this way? And, yet, she knew nothing about him to be able to know his past.

His hands wrapped around her wrists and his eyes snapped open, a snarl ripping from his throat as he pushed her forcefully from him. "Don't touch me!" he roared, releasing her wrists as she was pushed away from him. His form immediately shifted to a growling tiger, crouched and ready to pounce, before his, now golden, eyes widened as he recognized her. He shifted back to his human form again, and recoiled from her, scrambling across the room to put some distance between them.
"Shards," he swore softly, eyes never leaving her. "Akasha....I....Oh, for the love of the Nine Hells....." He looked away, shaking his head and running his hands anxiously through his hair. "Shards..."

His yell shook through her body, causing more fear to rush through her gaze. Yet, as he pushed at her, she stumbled backwards, almost losing her balance. If he had not transformed, causing her to leap farther away, and land upon the bed, she would have fallen. The light demoness could only stare at him, her hands already gripping her chains, as she rested in her crouched position on the bed. She forced herself to remember to breathe, though her breathing was low, almost inaudible. She resembled a wild animal pinned in a corner, fear yet a silent fierceness glowed in her gaze. She was ready to fight, despite the fact that she knew she wouldn’t be able to hold out against him.
Akasha blinked and swallowed as he recognized her. He had been about to attack her! He was dangerous, rather dangerous indeed. If he hadn’t recognized her, well…She didn’t want think about it. “Shade… Are you okay?” She asked meekly, her voice quivering faintly. Fear, unaltered and true rushed through her very core, shaking her back to reality. She could feel herself tense. She was ready to bolt out the door at any moment, all she needed as a sign that she was in danger, and she was gone.

He muttered a few more inaudible words, before slumping back against the wall. It took a moment for him to realize that she was asking him a question. "What?" he breathed, confusion flickering over his face for a moment. "Oh...right.....yeah......." He tore his gaze from her, letting his dark lashes settle over his eyes as he slid to the floor, looking rather stunned. He hadn't had a relapse in over one hundred and fifty years. And now, he'd had one, in front of her....almost attacked her....He shuddered silently.

She continued to peer at him, and slowly forced her muscles to listen to her will and loosen up. She calmly placed her weapon down upon the bed and continued to watch him. She knew what it was like, to suffer night terrors, yet she wouldn’t have expected someone like Shade to live with them. Hers weren’t as bad as his had seemed, and she knew that he hadn’t meant to scare her, or he wouldn’t have recoiled. But would anyone blame her for being afraid? She looked at the ground also, feeling ashamed for having to live in fear. She was sick of it, and truly, it didn’t suit her.
Akasha silently slipped off the bed and to the floor, as she walked across the ground gently. She brought herself to her knees beside him and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a gentle embrace, the action meaning the words that she could not say; the words that she knew not. The light demoness knew that she shouldn’t be afraid of Shade, at least, not yet. Certainly she could only be taking a chance in trusting him, but the way he appeared… He hadn’t meant to scare her. Those were the only words that she was capable of telling herself. But he was here to protect her. She would be here to care for him if he needed it.

His body stiffened reflexively when she first touched him, and his eyes widened slightly. He forced his muscles to relax against her, and let his head drop to rest on her shoulder, eyes closing as a soft sigh escaped his lips. He was silent for a good long while, merely enjoying the soothing feeling her touch brought.
"I'm sorry," he murmured, lifting his head slightly to whisper softly in her ear. "I...I didn't mean to...to...." There was an unfamiliar burning feeling at the back of his eyes. "To attack you," he ground out. "I just...." His throat closed up on him, and he couldn't talk, so he let his head drop back down onto her shoulder.

She felt him tense, yet she didn’t let go of him, she merely continued to hold him, and soon she felt his head upon her shoulder as she held him, staring at the wall, as she stood still. But not too long after, words reached her ears and she could feel his breath against her neck. “Shhh… It’s okay, I know… you don’t need to explain.” She whispered soothingly in his ear as she tightened her hold on him and rested her head against his, still staring at the wall. “Don’t worry about it, I’m still here.” She whispered gently as she ran her hand through his hair, closing her eyes as she concentrated on the movements and sounds that he would make. She could feel her pulse finally starting to slow, her fear ebbing away. She could trust him, she knew she could.

His hands moved up to tangle in her shirt, holding her close in response. His mind raced through his thoughts, and he felt a wetness on his cheeks that was yet unfamiliar to him. What on earth was going on?
"It was....it was my step-father," he murmured softly against her shoulder, his tears dripping from his eyes to her shirt, though his voice didn't hint at the fact he was crying; he hadn't cried since, well, since that night. That was over 500 years ago. "He...he raped her...my little sister...right in front of me........made me watch as he claimed her....desecrated her." His hands curled in her shirt again, clinging tightly to Akasha so that she couldn't see his face. "She was so frail, so little....her physical body couldn't handle it......he had me tied to the bedpost, to keep me from stopping him.....no matter what I changed to, my eyes would leave her, and I couldn't break free....." His throat closed again, but he forced himself to speak. "He....he left her there....bleeding.....left her to die....." A choked sob errupted suddenly from his throat, the tears coming faster than before.
"She was the only one who understood...."

Akasha froze as he told her what had happened, her mind picturing most things, though she didn’t show any outward signs that it scared her, or that she feared hearing what he was going to say, but she didn’t cut him off, nor did she try to speak in between what he was saying. She only listened, placing her forehead upon his head as she felt a shudder rush through her body as he mentioned rape. As she heard his sob, she wished that she knew what to do. But she had lived a sheltered life, most of her life. She knew not the realities that she would have to face until she had gone to Klyera. It was there that she had changed, where she had sealed herself from the world. Now the cold and uncaring light demoness knew not what to say, or do. She couldn’t help him. “Shade… I… I couldn’t… wouldn’t…” Her voice drifted, she didn’t know what to say, her words wouldn’t amount to anything compared to the grief that must be wracking his body, tearing his soul to pieces. She did the only thing that she knew how to do. She merely held him tightly and ran her hand over his back, trying to sooth him, though also wanting him to know that she wouldn’t get up and leave. That she would still be here, no matter what the morning brought.

He shook his head against her shoulder, taking in a deep breath. "It was then that I changed my name, and exiled myself from my home. He was....the first person I ever killed." He turned his head, exhaling softly against her neck, one hand drifting up to rest feather-light in the space between her neck and jaw, thumb ghosting over her skin. "Please....don't pity me...I don't want those emotions...." He shook his head again, hand moving down to rest on her shoulder. "Don't feel sorry for me...don't fear me...."

Akasha nodded faintly, so this was his story, the story that she had felt that she would never come to learn. In the end, it wasn’t him that she pitied but his sister. One so young, taken from life so cruelly. No, it only showed her the reasons why she didn’t trust them, the reasons that she had learned to fear them. She had misjudged him, and now she regretted that, but, she would listen to Shade’s words. Her mind followed the movement of his hand, though she forced her body not to tense up as he touched her. She gently closed her eyes. “I won’t Shade… I’m right here.” She whispered into his ear, lifting her hand slowly and placing it upon his. Fear him… Did she? Perhaps a little. It was whether it would last past tonight or not, that matter. That answer would most definitely be a no. It was proven by how she was still here.

He sighed again, and lifted his head, wiping the last of the tears from his face. He let his hand drop from her shoulder into his lap, and shook his head slightly. "Sorry," he murmured. "I'm not being much of a protector, am I?" he said, chuckling weakly. "You'd best be getting back to sleep." He stood and smoothed out his clothes, before offering his hand to her to help her stand. She looked up at him, her eyes showing how alert she appeared to be, though they also showed that she cared. "Shade…You are who you are. Don't ever apologize for being yourself, because you're showing another person that you don't really know yourself that well." She said softly, a smile upon her face as she quoted him. She placed her hand gently in his and used it to bring herself to her feet, gathering her balance rather quickly. But the light demoness merely rolled her eyes faintly. "The day you need to worry about my amount of rest Shade, is the day where that I become three-years-old again… Not going to happen. You don’t always need to be my protector Shade. I'd prefer to have you as a friend." Akasha said softly, still looking into his eyes, a gentle smile upon her lips.

He looked a bit surprised, but shook his head slightly. "Go back to sleep," he murmured, pressing a light kiss to the top of her head, before disappearing into the bathroom and shutting the door firlmly behind him.

She looked at him and nodded faintly, blinking in faint surprise as he kissed her head. She watched him head towards the bathroom and raised her brow faintly, though she calmly placed her weapons back on her bag, and did as he was told, though she knew that sleep would be scarce. Silently she laid back down upon the bed and slipped under the covers, pulling the blankets over her head, resting in the darkness as she drifted into a light sleep.

((^^ Actually, forgotten, but not lost!))
He sat in the bathroom for a little while, splashing his face a few times with water from a basin, just to clear his head. He shivered slightly, before emerged from the bathroom again, eyes dancing over her sleeping form. He gave a soft sigh, his shape shifting to the cat from when they were in her hometown, and he padded over to her bed, hopping up beside her. Walking carefully, he settled down in the crook of her body that she made when she slept, and stayed there, not sleeping, but instead watching her. Occasionally, he'd let out a quiet purr, gentle enough not to wake her.

Though deep sleep dared not to grasp her and pull her into its comforting embrace, she was barely able to detect that Shade had rested down against her. She didn’t know what it was, but she knew that it was small and gave her a certain comfort, so she didn’t wake up, and finally slipped into a deep sleep, feeling her mind shut down temporarily.
A few hours later, though it was still an hour or so before dawn, the feeling of a human body beside the female was what snapped the woman awake as she slowly dozed in and out of wakefulness, knowing that the sunlight would be coming soon, and with that power. Her eyes snapped open as her hands went immediately for her chains. Her nimble fingers wrapped themselves around the blades that were attached to them, and she moved swiftly, the rattling of chains going through the air as she moved. Bringing herself to her knees as she brought the knife downward, stopping merely centimeters away from the sleeping male’s chest, she blinked for a moment, and sighed in relief as she noticed Shade, and dropped her chains back on the floor. He had to warn her next time he decided to sleep beside her! She had been close to killing the male. She felt her cheeks burn faintly red, thinking that neither of them was better than the other, they must both secretly want the other one dead, for they kept waking up ready to attack each other.

The movement on her part rustled Shade from his light sleep. He'd only grasped an hour or so of sleep, during which he'd lost his cat form. Blinking hazily, he peered up at her, slight confusion clouding his eyes, before he yawned and stretched, cat-like, upon the bed, arching his back as he did so. After rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he sat up, bringing himself to eyelevel with the woman, expression blank as he met her gaze evenly. He didn't speak, merely looked at her, nothing in his features revealing the strange rush of emotions beneath the surface.

The light demoness looked at him and smiled faintly, running her hand over her face and gently letting out a breath that she had been holding. How she hated waking up in a start like that, but she had become accustomed to it. She watched him, her legs curling under her body as she rested her hand upon the bed and leaned against it. “Morning Shade,” she said softly, her voice showing her embarrassment to the actions that she had just taken. She couldn’t help but imagine if she would have actually hit him! That would have been horrible… But her thoughts merely forced her to lower her gaze towards the bed, as she peered calmly at her fingers. She didn’t want to look at him until she knew that she could do so without having to suffer with the red tint upon her cheeks.

He moved his neck down, trying to meet her eyes, which only ended up in him flopping down onto the bed in front of her, amethyst eyes staring up at her through dark lashes. He grinned. "Morning." His grin took on an impish quality. "My my, is that a blush I see?" he inquired with a smirk, lifting a hand to brush strands of hair from her face to see the blush better; at least, that was the excuse he told himself. He winked at her and grinned, looking positively adorable and cute right at that moment with such a pure smile on his face, and bright, sparkling eyes.
Rather childlike, actually...

The light demoness merely stared at him oddly as he fell down in front of her, though she didn’t know that he had done so trying to meet her gaze. She smiled faintly, not daring to laugh, though as he mentioned her blush, all she wanted to do was yell into a pillow. Crazy shifters with great night vision! “No… You’re seeing things!” She said softly though a soft laughter echoed in her throat. Her attention jumped to his hand as she felt it brush the hair away from her face, though she made no outward signs to show that she was following its every movement before looking back down at him. His smile seemed so true and his eyes so alive, Akasha couldn’t help but wonder what was making him so happy. “Why such the large grin?” The female asked as her silver gaze peered in his purple one. How could she trust him so much? What had he done too make her think him different than the others? Questions flowed gently into her mind, though they were whisked away rather quickly, for she knew that the answers didn’t really matter, the only thing that counted was that she did trust him, and think him differently than others.

He shrugged slightly, grinning. "Dunno." He sat up and slid off the bed, stretching again, before running a hand absently through his hair and moving to the tiny kitchen area that was offered. He made a pot of water for tea, before leaning against the counter and watching her. "So, did you sleep well?" he asked, arching a brow.
