She tensed immediately as the hand was placed upon her shoulder, but, then, immense warmth traveled through her, chasing away the cold. She sighed in annoyance as he mentioned that he would keep her safe yet again. It was only a job to him, but the feeling of throwing herself at someone’s feet wasn’t something that she wanted to have to do during her life. “If we can find an Oasis, or a cave, or something that can offer a faint bit of shelter, I’ll rest. How’s that?”

He nodded. "You should be on the lookout for a cave. There won't be another oasis until we reach the next city." His eyes darted back and forth, sending up a silent prayer to whatever god may be listening that a cave would show up soon.

Akasha whirled around nimbly, as she allowed her memories to rush around her. She knew this place, and slowly, as though they were rushing in through an endless sea, she felt her closed doors open and the map of what she knew of the desert opened up around her. She remembered this place, though she could only make guesses as to where they were standing, but, it mattered not. “I know where I’m going now…” She said, as her face lost more color, though it wasn’t because of the darkness anymore, it was because of the memories of running away from the people that wanted to frame her, she had passed right through here.
Changing directions ever so faintly, she walked forward, with a bit more speed. She knew where she was going; she knew exactly what she was going to do. So that allowed her to set her mind to getting there. Soon, or rather, after a good hours walk, she changed her direction and walked straight towards a sand dune. Practically hidden from view, was a hole in the wall, where a cave was situated. She groaned faintly. “I wasn’t expecting the doorway to be practically blocked… More protection I guess.” She said as she pushed herself into a run as she rushed up the side and crawled into the hole, sliding down the sand entrance.
She crawled towards a wall and leaned against it, pulling her knees to her chin. She looked at the entrance and waited for Shade to enter, as she felt another shiver tear through her. It was darker inside the cave than out, and that was one thing she didn’t like.

He arched a brow as she changed directions several times, but he kept silent. He slipped silently into the entrance behind her, but, instead of sitting against the wall, he removed a pack that appeared at his side. He removed a few items, one that looked like a log of wood, and set to work. He struck a match on the cave wall, and set it on the log, which instantly set aflame. He furrowed his brows as he stared at the flame, and soon, no smoke was produced, and the log didn't burn; but heat radiated from it, as well as a soft light. He looked up at her. "I'll guard the outside." With that, he slipped back into the darkness of the night.

She nodded to him as he spoke and crept silently closer to the fire, but not too close. She rested herself upon the ground and curled up into a ball, using her arms as her pillow as she closed her eyes, only to feel exhaustion wash over her. She despised being this weak, and, yet, soon she was washed away by sleep, her last worry, being one that she wouldn’t sleep through most of the day.

Shade sat atop the dune, ever attentive on the sands around him, and lit a cigarette. He would stay awake during the night, and wake her when the sun rose. That would be best. They needed to keep moving in the desert.

She slept peacefully, or so it appeared, yet inside of her mind, she could feel her horror lashing out at her, threatening to consume her. The nightmare was starting all over again. She could see the fight rush out around her, pulling her into its endless grasp. She had been forced to fight to survive, and she had only used her weapons to save her life, not to kill. But, accidents could happen… Suddenly, the scene changed again, and she was running across the desert, and they were right behind her. Her breath had been coming to her in ragged gasps, as her legs brought her swifter through the hot sand. “Why are you after me!?” She had yelled out, though in her sleep, it was only a faint mumble, her peaceful appearance shattered, and pain showed upon her face.
No other words were said, as each nightmare passed through her mind, all of her memories threatening to consume her, and drag her into the eternal darkness. She hadn’t wanted to kill. It had not been her choice…

Dawn came swiftly, and he waited a few hours in the daylight before dropping back down into the cave. The night had been relatively uneventful. He shook her awake gently. "Hey," he murmured. "Come on, Akasha, wake up."

Feeling a hand upon her shoulder shaking her awake, the girl’s eyes darted open quickly, a wild and frightened look deep within their depth. It took her a few moments to realize that it was Shade who was there, and not someone else. “I’m awake… I think…” She murmured softly as she turned to her stomach and pushed herself to her feet. She stretched much in the way of a feline before taking off her cloak and shaking it before throwing it back over her shoulders.
Rubbing the sleep out of her gaze, Akasha peered at him through one eye. “So how much longer are you going to be following me?” She inquired gently, thankful for his protection during the night, but, she could take care of herself. The nightmare was just fading from her mind, which allowed her to think, and she realized that the sandy floor had made her quite stiff. Oh well, it was just another day of walking. Her taunt muscles would loosen soon enough.

He shrugged lightly, and snuffed out the fire. "Dunno. Until the Council tells me that I can stop." He placed the log back into the pack, and slung it over his shoulder before exiting the cave once again.

She merely shrugged and fixed her chains swiftly before following him. “But how are you going to know what the council says if you are always on my tail? Or do they have ways of finding you?” She inquired politely, tilted her head ever so faintly as she felt the sudden rush of the sun upon her skin. More color appeared upon her face, as she looked up towards the energy, basking in it for a moment while waiting for his answer. She was trying her best to get rid of him.

He was watching the sands again. "They have their ways." He frowned slightly, brows creasing, but it was only a flicker of emotion, before his face returned to it's stoic blankness.

“What’s wrong?” She inquired faintly as she looked at him, her calculating gaze having noticed the flicker of emotion. She went down upon one knee and fixed her boots, allowing herself free movement, and making sure that everything that she owned, which wasn’t a lot, was in place. Well, another day of travel, and this was going to be a long journey on foot.

He cast a cursory glance towards her, before looking back out at the expanse they'd have to cross. "Nothing."

She looked at him and merely sighed faintly, having expected no less from him as she headed forward. “It shouldn’t take too long…” She muttered faintly an amused grin upon her face. Of course, the desert had been her home, so, too long could be anything from a few hours to a few days.

He moved along after her, careful to stay a few steps back as to not invade her 'bubble'. He remained silent as they walked, and would remain as such until something else came upon them, or she spoke to him directly.

She shot him a look over her shoulder, though she mostly saw her hood instead. She looked forward again and then turned around, her eyes widening in shock. “Oh blazing hell… Run!” She cursed under her breath as she turned around swiftly and merely started to run. This was not the time for this to happen, not at all. They had already walked away from the cave, and what she saw was large, and coming from that direction. She didn’t care; she merely bolted, untying her cloak as she ran, ready to throw it over her head at any moment.
What she saw was a rather large sand storm crossing through the desert, quite common actually, but still dangerous no less. She could only curse her luck, for it only seemed to work in the favor of getting her into a lot of trouble. She only hoped that he knew the urgency of the problem.

He grabbed her arm. "Stop! You can't outrun a storm! And we'd never make it to the next city in time!" He pulled her down to the ground, and shifted again, becoming large enough to cover her completely. Only his head remained normal, and it was a good distance away from her head, to provide enough space for them both to be comfortable. The bubble he had created gave her space to move around, but was impenetrable by the sand. As the first wave of the storm his his back, he flinched slightly, but stayed still. A light sweat broke over his face, but he kept his mouth presed in a thin line.

As he pulled her down towards the ground, she didn’t resist, instead, she allowed herself to fall down easily, as her arms rushed over her head, bracing herself for the first, wave of the storm to strike. Yet, instead of feeling the sand and wind rush over her, she felt nothing. Silently she lifted her head, and looked around, first noticing the bubble, and secondly, she realized that it was Shade who had shifted into something to protect them. Her eyes widened as she noticed the storm raging around them, and she stared at the Shapeshifter oddly, having not expected them to be able to withstand the elements. “You are going to get yourself killed!” She said softly, her tone showing a tad bit of concern, before it was swiped away. Calmly she clasped her hands together and looked over her shoulder to the direction where the storm was coming. She concentrated on the sand around them, and forced the sand to bend to her will and create a high enough wall to break the flow of the storm, or at least, create three walls around them. She couldn’t create a roof, for fear that it would cave in, but with three walls, she hoped that Shade wouldn’t have to suffer the blow of the sand.

A tiny smile played across his face, before vanishing. "Nonsense," he ground out. "I told you I'd protect you, and that's what I'm doing. I won't die because of a little sand."

She gave him and odd look as she rose the walls a bit higher, and firmly sealed them in place. “With you, I’d wonder.” She said softly as she took off her cloak and tucked it under her head while she stared at the ground. “It’s not the dying that I’m worried about, there are many dangers in the desert, and if you get badly wounded, and you are unable to shift back into another healed form, don’t expect me to stay here and tend your wounds. I’d be gone before you woke up.” She said coldly, though in her mind, she wondered if that was true. If he had been harmed, trying to protect her, would she truly just walk away?

"That's okay," he said softly. "I can take care of myself. Besides, I've been through worse." He smiled wryly, and reinforced her barriers with his own.

Akasha looked at him as her silver eyes gleamed faintly. “Perhaps I should allow you to get harmed then, for if I do, I would no longer be just a case for an extra pay.” She stated coldly, her distrust and harsh air coming back again. It was clear that she jumped from one mood to another, very quickly. It all depended on her emotions. Yet, the barrier staid in place, and she made no hint of going to take it down, at all. “My thoughts exactly… this storm, is nothing…” She said in a soft voice, her mind drifting from the way her life had been, and the way it would become. This caused her to sigh sorrowfully, for she knew, she no longer had a home to return to.

He chuckled quietly. "Unfortunatly for you, this storm won't do any damage to me. Like I said, I've withstood worse." He would have shrugged his shoulders if he could, but made no move to do so. He simply watched a patch of sand behind her head.

She looked at him as he chuckled and merely rested her head back upon her cloak as she silently played with a strand of her hair, her eyes losing focus as she fell lost in thought. How could things like this happen to her? She was only one to walk around, and trouble seemed to be attracted to her like metal to a magnet. She just didn’t understand. “So I’m stuck with you for some unlimited time…” She stated mostly to herself as she continued to stare absentmindedly at the ‘bubble’. “How do I get myself into these things?!” She said with a groan as she shoved her head into her cloak, seeing only darkness, hoping it would wash away her thoughts.
