He had picked up the newspaper and was reading it again. He didn't look up at her when she spoke, and didn't reply right away either. He took his time with his response, for he had all the time in the world. "She didn't deserve life." It was a simple enough answer, short and to the point.

The female could only nod as she sipped at her tea, still watching him. “They waste away much too easily.” She said softly with a faint sigh; understand his response easily, though to someone else, it could probably be questioned. “Anything interesting in there?” She inquired gently, her gaze wandering towards the window, watching the sky. "Not really," he responded. "Mostly just local news and business listings. There's not much in this town, except the business. My guess is that this murder is the most excitment this town has had in the longest time."

Kiriel looked at him and laughed faintly, her laughter tinged with a bit of coldness as though she couldn’t believe her ears, but it still had that gentle and sweet air to it that could trick people so easily into thinking that the coldness had never existed. “I see, well, I guess this is one of the reasons why I’m never sent into one of these places to try and heal others.” She stated softly, half tempted to raise hell in this place, merely for the fun of it. But she had to qualm those thoughts; it wouldn’t do her any good. This was his home town after all.

Thane smiled at her, grinning from ear to ear. "That's why," he agreed. He ran a hand quickly through his hair and sighed softly. After a moment, there was a knock on the door, and Thane rose smoothly, walking to the door and opening out. Outside stood a rather shaken deskclerk. Apparently, she had just heard the news of her coworker's death.
"Sir, Madame," she said, voice shaking slightly. "There's an inspector downstairs, and he'd like to speak with you," she said, before bowing quickly and scurrying down the hallway and down the stairs. Thane blinked a moment, before looking back at Kiriel.
"Well, let's go then," he said, smiling warmly.

The female looked up as she heard the knock on the door, her head tilting faintly as she looked just a bit sideways to notice who had decided to come to see them. Nimbly the female got to her feet, slipping on her new boots as she cleared the wrinkles from her pants before walking towards his side and smiling faintly. “Yes, I wonder why they would want to see us.” She said softly, quickly covering up her emotions as she nodded to him and merely slipped silently into the hall, heading towards the downstairs were the inspectors were waiting for them to arrive.

He simply smiled at her as she passed him, before following her down the stairs.
In the lobby sat the inspector, a portly little man with a scruffy beard, who looked as though he was annoyed with having to actually do his job. Small, beady black eyes peered out at Thane and Kiriel as the pair descended the stairs, and watched as the male went over to sit across from him. Thane slouched slightly in the chair, face a mask of calm and indifference, and swung one leg up to cross over the other. He offered a smile to the detective, who merely scowled.
"'Suppose you two know what happened by now?" the inspector growled.
"Aye," replied Thane.
"S'I'm gonna ask you a few questions, if that's alright."
"Not a problem sir."
"First, for the lady, where were you last night between the hours of 2 AM and 4 AM?" The beady eyes rested on Kiriel, and a fat, pink tongue darted out to lick pale lips.

Kiriel looked at the inspector, her gray eyes gently landing upon him as she watched his gaze rush towards her direction. She merely listened to what the man was saying as she gracefully walked to where Thane was sitting and leaned against his chair faintly, clearly in no mood to sit down. Her attention never wavered from the man’s form as she listened intently, her gaze showing her calmness, though they seemed to show a bit of sorrow when he mentioned what had happened to the young woman. Her being a healer, and all, of course she was supposed to care about others, no?
As a question was directed in her direction, she merely rested her gaze squarely upon his and spoke calmly. “I was just arriving at the Inn during those hours, sir. Where the woman greeted me, and I received the key to our,” here she pointed to Thane and herself, “room, and soon went to bed afterwards.” She didn’t bother to mention the long wait that she had to go through, for waiting was absolutely nothing to her. It was a part of her everyday life. Gently her slim fingers went up towards her face and pushed a strand of hair that threatened to cover her view behind her ears, making sure to give the man every bit of attention, before she curled them around the back of Thane’s chair, waiting patiently. She had absolutely no idea why he would suspect them, but they were the strangers in the town.

The inspector took out a cloth from his pocket, and swiped it across his forehead, wiping away the thin film of sweat that had formed there. "A'right. Sir, what is your business here in town?" he asked.
"This is my hometown, sir. I came back for a quick visit and a few peaceful nights vacation from my friends." He smiled politely. Thane gently slipped a hand up to take one of Kiriel's, rubbing the back of her hand lightly with his thumb. ~Play along,~ he told her mentally, still smiling at the inspector. ~We can avoid a lot of unpleasant confrontations with this...man...if we pretend like we're together.~
The portly little fellow seemed a bit put off by this sudden display of familiarity, and he cleared his throat. "Ma'am, is this your first time to Dshjek?" Thane simply continued to smile and rub his thumb along Kiriel's hand.

The female merely continued to watch the inspector, though when Thane placed his hand upon her hand, she smiled to him warmly, slipping easily into the act as she added one more act to the play in which she called her life. Everything was only for show. Everything seemed to be a mere game, and of course, life was a game to this female. For everyone had a chance for their number to be up when she was around, but it mattered not. Kiriel enjoyed adding many more acts to the show, it only made it more interesting.
Her gaze went upwards towards the man for a moment and she nodded calmly. “Yes, I was curious to see his hometown, so I tagged along. I was just running a bit behind schedule.” She said simply as though it was the most obvious answer that she could give him. Though her gaze returned to its calm exterior whenever it flickered towards Thane it seemed to get a bit warmer, easily hinting at something more between them. But of course, they were the world’s best actors!

Thane's eyes never left the inspector, though his smile seemed to brighten a bit more whenever he felt Kiriel's eyes on him. When the inspector merely stared at them for a few moments -- one could nearly see the smoke coming from between his ears -- Thane decided it was time to speak.
"Sir, exactly who was it that was killed? We heard that someone had been murdered, but we were never informed as to who it was." This drew the inspector's attention back to them, and he swallowed hard, wiping that cloth across his forehead again.
"A desk clerk, sir, from this hotel. She was on duty last night when you two came in."
"I see..."

Kiriel’s eyes widened as he mentioned the desk clerk, a mixture of shock, and fear within her gaze. It was someone that had been so close to the Inn; it could have been anyone that could have been murdered! But she calmly took a calm breath, taming the emotions, though her eyes went to the front desk, a deep sorrow glimmering within their depths. Such a lovely young woman… Another person lost in the night. How sorrowful that fact was.
“Why would someone kill that lovely young woman?” She inquired calmly, her voice hinting at the faintest tendrils of worry within her tone, but not a worry that would be sent to herself, a worry for the people of this town. Who knew if other people may pass away tonight? And being a healer, this affected her deeply.
Silently, and softly, her fingers curled around Thane’s hand, seeking reassurance that no others would be murdered upon the length of their stay, or so it would appear to any other. “Is there anything that we could do to aid you on your search, sir?” She asked, her voice gentle, soft, being as sincere as she possibly could.
